The Crack Pipes, Enduro, Me And The Devil, and The Flesh Lights at Emo's Jr. | Events | A.V. Austin
The Crack Pipes, Enduro, Me And The Devil, and The Flesh Lights at Emo's Jr. | Events | A.V. Austin: "In the ’90s, few bands stirred the molten pot of black-tar blooze and muddy Delta-fied punk like Enduro, whose riotous, yelping fuzz would have made Jon Spencer jealous. The group splintered around the turn of the millennium, donating its severed rhythm section to horn-blowing soul brothers The Crack Pipes, but recently reunited to record songs for the independent “youth in revolt” film, Altamont Now. Those good/bad vibes must have lasted, because Enduro returns here for another rip through the Emo’s front room it used to dominate, followed by an always-welcome blast of tent revival rhythm-and-blues from Rev. Ray Pride and the gang."

Johann Hari: Republicans, religion and the triumph of unreason - Johann Hari, Commentators - The Independent
Johann Hari: Republicans, religion and the triumph of unreason -
Johann Hari, Commentators - The Independent: "How do they train themselves to be so impervious to reality? It begins, I suspect, with religion. They are taught from a young age that it is good to have 'faith' – which is, by definition, a belief without any evidence to back it up. You don't have 'faith' that Australia exists, or that fire burns: you have evidence. You only need 'faith' to believe the untrue or unprovable. Indeed, they are taught that faith is the highest aspiration and most noble cause. Is it any surprise this then percolates into their political views? Faith-based thinking spreads and contaminates the rational."
